Chickadees:

~~~~~The black-capped chickadee is one of the most adorable little feeder birds. There are several species of chickadees throughout North America, including our black-capped chickadee, the Boreal chickadee, the chestnut-sided chickadee, and others. The chickadee is a seed loving bird, favoring sunflowers and sunflower-based mixes. Sometimes, they’ve been known to eat thistle seeds alongside the finches. They enjoy hopper, tube, and platform feeders. They are able to cling to feeders without perches, making it easy to feed them without feeding birds like the English House Sparrow.
~~~~~Chickadees are one of the species in the handful of birds that will nest in housing boxes- only cavity nesters will use them. Chickadees make a neat nest from grasses and feathers. In the winter time, they frequently use such cavities to roost- several birds will stay together to keep warm at night. At our store, we carry several nesting boxes that can convert to roosting boxes in the winter-time. The entry hole changes from being on the top to near the bottom, so as not to let out the heat that rises to the top of the box.
