Bluebird Seminar- Tommorrow!!
As soon as it warms up, we will see an explosion of bluebirds looking for
nesting boxes. Want to know what houses work best and where to mount them?
Attend our bluebird seminar tomorrow, March 29 at 8:30 at the Wild Bird Center.
Free juice and donuts! Call 320.253.5677 if you have any questions.
Spring is in the Air
Or is it? The robins and bluebirds were back, as usual, in mid-March. The
only problem is, there is still too much snow on the ground for them to be back
in the numbers they normally are. Now is the time to watch for signs of
starvation in those brave souls that are toughing it out. Birds that are
fluffed up and lethargic could be hungry due to lack of food. You can help by
feeding mealworms.
Fun fact:There are several things that birds use to find their way while migrating, including: the magnetic pull of the earth's poles, the position of the sun, memories from past migrations, and even the position of star constellations!

Seed and Weeds
What's up with seed prices?
I'm sure you have all noticed the spike in seed prices. Corn for ethanol is a
very lucrative crop, fetching record prices. Many sunflower growers switched
to corn last year. More people are feeding birds. Basic economics states that
low supply and high demand equals higher prices. The market is very volatile
at this time. There are rumors of a corn glut which may encourage more farmers
to plant sunflower this year. If this happens, prices should stabilize. In
the meantime, be sure to feed a quality seed. You will get more birds with
less seed and none of it will end up uneaten under your feeder.
Did you know we are the only bird store in central Minnesota whose seed
supplier keeps the human quality (larger) seeds in our mixes? All other
suppliers remove them for human consumption, as they can get more money for the
seed on the human market. Birds like the larger seeds better! Plus we not only
clean our seed, we triple clean it. It is 99.9% pure. Most other seeds are
only 93-94% pure. This means fewer weed seeds sprouting in your lawn and
cleaner feeders. We guarantee your birds will like our seed better or your
money back.
Bird Safety!
Did you know that improperly timed weed preventatives can kill baby birds? We
recommend using corn gluten fertilizer and weed preventative It is so safe you
can put your baby on the grass immediately after application. In stock now.
As always, be sure to keep checking up on www.wildbirdfeeding.net for more updates.
