Platform Feeders

Platform feeders will attract the largest variety of birds. Songbirds are, by nature, a prey species. Songbirds feel most comfortable when they have a clear view of the world around them, so that they can see danger when it approaches (ie hawks, cats, etc). With no seed compartment to obstruct their vision, platform feeders provide a clear view of what is going on around them. Some birds, like cardinals and juncoes, are ground feeders in nature, and thus feel most comfortable on a platform feeder. With a mesh bottom instead of wood, water is allowed to escape through, eliminating the problem of moldy, sprouting seed. Platforms can be mounted on a pole by themselves, beneath another feeder or on the ground.

In the store, we carry cedar and recycled plastic platforms in hanging, pole mount, and ground feeder varieties.
