January 7th, 09
What: Black-backed woodpecker, possibly some crossbills
Where: A scientific and natural area by St. Joe called the St. Wendall Tamarack Bog SNA. From St. Joseph, heading north on CR2, take a right onto CR4. Near the sign for SNA (scientific and natural area) a bog can be seen by a long driveway 1/4 mile S.
Details/Credit: An email sent out on MOU net by M. Blomberg reported the Black backed sighting. Apparently, snowshoes would be needed to walk back the 1/3 of a mile into the bog where the woodpecker was sighted.
