Bird Walks and Talks

~~~~We’re not just here to supply you with top-notch seed and feeders. As our home office puts it, “our aim is to foster appreciation for the natural world among people of all ages.” Therefore, we make our best effort to offer birding and other nature programs to all nature lovers in the St. Cloud area. Sometimes we will have demonstrations and talks in the store and at local nature centers, or walks through area parks.
~~~~Such programs are led by either store owner Janice Bergstrom, a lifelong naturalist and birder, or by me, her daughter. I may only be a sophomore in college, but I’m majoring in ecology (the study of how organisms interact with one another and their natural surroundings), and work as a natural history interpreter at the Bell Museum of Natural History while school is in session. My mom is an all-round walking encyclopedia of natural history knowledge, and I have been trained in working with children to better teach them about nature.

Past Birdwalks:
~~~~My mom and I have been walking through Quarry Park in Waite Park occasionally, and definitely have noticed an abundance of birds, both in quantity and variety. Quarry Park, a Sterns county park, is not only a lovely place to swim, but a designated Scientific and Natural Area. While walking in the ‘SNA’ portion of the park, vireos, indigo buntings, wood thrushes, and many other species of birds you may not typically see in your backyard can be heard or seen. Interesting vegetation like prickly pairs and plants of the Oak/Savanna ecosystem can also be found in abundance. Bring the kids, grandkids, or whoever! BYOB- Bring your own binoculars!
